The primary objective is to empower adolescent girls and financially incentivize families to delay marriages until the legal age while keeping their daughters in the education system. Unlike standard scholarships that require students to navigate complex online portals themselves, Kanyashree is driven entirely by the schools and colleges. Institutions actively identify eligible girls, provide them with physical forms, and handle the data entry into the Kanyashree portal. The funds are then transferred directly into the girl's bank account, giving her financial independence and a strong incentive to continue her studies.

How to apply
- Do not attempt to register on the Kanyashree portal yourself; the application process is handled offline through your school or college.
- Collect the Kanyashree application form from your institution's designated nodal teacher.
- Submit the filled form, along with a declaration of your unmarried status and an active bank account in your name, back to the school for processing.
Why applications get rejected
- Providing a joint bank account instead of a single bank account solely in the applicant's name, which will cause the direct benefit transfer to bounce.
- Missing the K2 application window, which must be completed closely around the time the girl turns 18 and is still enrolled in an institution.
